The Lagos State Safety Commission, through its Zero Accident Campaign (ZAP), has shut six lounges and nightclubs in the Ikeja area of the state.
Director-General of the commission, Lanre Mojola confirmed this over the weekend.
He said that the premises were shut over various safety infractions in line with the commission’s 2022 ZAP campaign aimed at keeping public facilities safe for visitors and workers.
Mojola identified the safety infractions that led to the action as failure to obtain safety compliance certificates, failure to register with the safety commission through its portal, lack of fire extinguishers, poor hygiene, poor housekeeping, lack of safety signage, and inadequate parking space that regularly caused traffic gridlock, among others.
He said that various efforts by the commission to ensure the establishments complied with its directives proved abortive, hence the closure.

Mojola warned that a state-wide enforcement would also be carried out to ensure that hazards that could expose visitors and workers to needless risk were eliminated at such facilities.
