World Maritime Day: Firm set to honour industry leaders and professionals
In commemoration of the World Maritime Day (WMD) 2022, prominent personalities and organisations will be honoured in the Maritime and Offshore Award (The OMIS).
Chief Executive Officer of The OMIS, Femi Da-silva said this in a statement released in Lagos on Tuesday. Now in its 44th year, the World Maritime Day initiated by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) is marked annually to appreciate the importance of maritime industry and to underline the importance of maritime security, maritime environment, safety, and shipping.
Da-silva said that The OMIS was conceived to promote excellence in the maritime and offshore industries by celebrating, motivating and deepening commitment of individuals and organisations in this critical sector of the economy.
He said that United Nations statistics shows that international shipping transports more than 80 per cent of global trade to peoples and communities all over the world, hence the importance of recognising and celebrating the individuals and organisations that facilitate this process could not be over-emphasised

âManaging Director, LADOL, Dr. Amy Jadesimi; National President, Women in Energy, Oil and Gas (WEOG) Nigeria, Dr. Oladunni Owo; President, Women in Maritime Africa (WIMA); Commercial Manager, APM Terminals, Temilade Ogunniyi; CEO, Multimix Group, Dr. Obiora Madu; President, Nigerian Maritime Law Association, Mrs Funke Agbor; CEO, CHARKIN Maritime and Offshore Safety Centre, Dr. Charles Wami; Founder, Women in Logistics and Transport, Hajia Aisha Ali-Ibrahim; CEO, Ocean Deep Services, Mrs. Macfoy Rollens; Executive Director, Sifax Group, Wunmi Eniola-Jegede, among others are shortlisted as a nominee in individual category of the award,â he said.


He said that CMA CGM Shipping Company, Peak Shipping Services Ltd , LTT Coastal & Marine Services Ltd, OnePort 365, Trucks Transit Parks Ltd (TTP), MVX, Charkin Maritime Training, Elkins Marine, Global Maritime Academy, Ocean Deep Services Ltd, Samsung Heavy Industries Nigeria (SHIN) , Niger Benue Transport Company Ltd, Nigerdock, Shipside Drydock Ltd, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Brisktrade, Joeny Holdings LTD, Bricks Nigeria Limited, Diolits Marine Services Ltd, Ocean Deep Services Ltd, Wems Global Services, The Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Bureau Veritas, King Shipping Trading Maritime Services, Ocean Ambassadors Foundation (OAF) were among organisations shortlisted in the corporate category which also includes distinguished Seafarers.
Da-silva further disclosed that the award banquet scheduled for September 24 at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, would feature exciting side attractions including an exhibition and panel discussion along the theme of this yearâs World Maritime Day: New technologies for greener shipping.
