AfriSAFE Begins Shortlisting Process

AfriSAFE Begins Shortlisting Process: Step-by-Step Guide for Nominees

The most anticipated safety event in Africa, AfriSAFE has commenced the shortlisting process of its nominees.

The AfriSAFE 2024 Congress and Award Ceremony, headlined by Zambia Sugar and endorsed by the Zambia Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Zambia Ministry of Tourism, has attracted 11,428 nominees this year.

From this large pool, an initial shortlist of 178 nominees has been created. These nominees have been contacted via email to confirm their responses and continue with the next stages of the process.

This article outlines the complete and detailed process to reach the final shortlist and identify the eventual winners.

Step 1: Nomination Submission

  • Nominate your company, an individual, or yourself for an award.
  • There are 8 award categories for organizations and 14 for individuals open for nominations.

Step 2: Eligibility and Initial Review

  • Nominations are vetted to ensure eligibility and undergo an initial review.
  • Eligible nominees receive a nomination email to proceed to the next stage.
  • Nominees must complete a brief assessment questionnaire and submit required documents, protected under relevant data protection regulations.
  • Submissions are investigated and verified by our team, followed by further shortlisting of verifiable entries before being passed to the judges.
  • Any falsehood detected results in automatic disqualification.

Step 3: Judges’ Review and Scoring

  • Judges review assessments and documents, and may ask further questions via phone calls.
  • For certain organizational award categories, site visits may be required (not applicable to all categories).
  • Judges assess shortlisted entries based on a set criteria and assign marks.
  • Marks are collated to determine an average score, from which finalists are identified.

Scoring Criteria:

  • 1–5: Below Average
  • 6–10: Above Average
  • Entries scoring above 50% marks are considered AfriSAFE Nominees and receive a nomination certificate.
  • The highest-scoring entries in each category are declared winners.

Note for Multi-Category Nominees:

  • For those nominated in two or more categories, their response to the form should reflect the multiple categories they were nominated for; otherwise, it will not be recorded.

Step 4: Finalist Cooperation with Media

  • Finalists must cooperate with the media team for video filming, interviews, and workplace photos.
  • Deadlines for these activities are typically between July and September.
  • Inform your corporate communication team/department early to avoid any concerns.

Step 5: Award Gala Celebration

  • All nominees are invited to a hybrid (virtual and physical) award gala in November in Livingstone, Zambia.
  • Shortlisted finalists receive nomination certificates, and winners are announced and awarded distinctive plaques.
  • Some nominees may receive special gift packages, including cash prizes and HSE course coupons.
  • While the award is free, all attendees are expected to pay an entry fee to the physical award event, and all travel expenses are the responsibility of the attendees or nominees.
  • Nominees who cannot genuinely afford the entry fee will be considered on a case-by-case basis. This does not apply to all nominees.
  • Virtual participation for the conference and award ceremony requires payment, but nominees who cannot afford it will also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

This year’s AfriSAFE, themed “Collaborating Beyond Borders for a Safe and Sustainable Africa,” will take place on November 7th and 8th in Livingstone, Zambia.
