The Gulf View Hotel and Conference Centre in Lagos came alive on Thursday, September 9, 2025, as the World Safety Organisation (WSO) hosted its international conference. The event attracted leading professionals, policymakers, and safety advocates from Nigeria and Ghana, creating a vibrant atmosphere of knowledge exchange.

Delegates and participants engaged in thought-provoking sessions that focused on health, safety, security, and environmental practices. Hon. Suleiman Abubakar Gunmi, a member of the Federal House of Assembly and Chairman of the North West Development Commission, delivered a keynote address that emphasized the urgent need for stronger policies and proactive safety measures across critical sectors.

The conference featured a panel session moderated by Engr. Jamiu Badmos, where experts provided insights on disaster management, marine safety, crisis communication, ISO standards, and oil and gas safety practices. The discussions highlighted both challenges and practical solutions, offering participants strategies to improve safety standards in their various industries.

Practical sessions also took center stage. Participants were trained on administering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), with hands-on demonstrations to ensure readiness in real-life emergencies. The Lagos Fire and Rescue Service complemented this with an engaging presentation on common causes of fire outbreaks, preventive measures, and effective techniques for tackling incipient fires.

The opening day of the conference left participants with key lessons on preparedness, collaboration, and continuous learning in safety management.
Sessions will continue as stakeholders deepen conversations on how to strengthen health, safety, and environmental practices across Africa.
