The Enugu State Police Command has reaffirmed its ban on the sale and unauthorised use of fireworks during the festive season, cautioning residents that violators will face prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa issued the warning in a statement released early this week by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe.
According to the CP, the restriction is essential to safeguarding public safety during the yuletide period.
“We are reiterating that the sale, purchase, and use of firework popularly known as knockouts or bangers- remain banned across the state,” Giwa said.
He noted that criminals often exploit the noise from fireworks to commit offences or cause public panic.
“Anyone caught violating this order will face the full weight of the law,” he stressed.
Giwa also appealed to parents and guardians to warn their children against using fireworks, adding that enforcement teams have been deployed to ensure strict compliance throughout the season.
Beyond fireworks, the Commissioner condemned the increasing cases of bush burning linked to the harmattan weather, warning that such actions heighten the risk of fire outbreaks capable of endangering lives and property.
“Bush burning at this time of year is reckless and hazardous. Offenders will be duly prosecuted,” he said.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious activities to aid crime prevention during the festive period.
