A sign-out celebration at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, ended tragically on Dec 8 when a final-year student lost his life in a motorcade crash.
The incident occurred shortly after students completed their last examination and joined a convoy to mark the end of their academic journey.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle involved reportedly lost control while attempting to overtake, leading to a fatal collision with an oncoming truck.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Edo State confirmed the accident on Dec 9.
Sector Commander Cyril Mathew stated that one student died while five others sustained varying injuries.
Mathew cautioned students against organising risky road parades and encouraged safer, campus-based celebrations. He emphasized that completing school should be a moment of joy, not one that endangers lives.
