AfriSAFE Hosts Oscars in Honor of Outstanding Safety Performance

Impala, SafetyCloud, NLNG, Seplat among Top Winners. Folake Soetan, Lindy Scott, Samson Onyeabor, Rank Top in Award Categories

The glamour that accompanied Africa’s biggest HSSE Night, Africa Safety Awards for Excellence (AfriSAFE) 2021, an event that held on November 12 at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, is one that will linger much in the minds of those who were present.

The event, filled with thrilling and captivating moments, hosted safety professionals and representatives of corporate organizations from different African countries in celebration of safety excellence and contributions in health and safety across Africa.

A member of AfriSAFE Advisory Board, Mr Wale Bakare, lauded the winners of the various categories for their individual and corporate roles in health and safety in the continent of Africa.

While delivering his welcome address, he said, “In every contest, one person eventually takes the diadem but in this case, all that have made the final shortlist are all champions.”

“They have made it to this stage through a rigorous process of adjudication by our panel of judges who come from 5 different countries in 3 continents,” he said.

Among individuals who carted home awards for their outstanding roles in health and safety include Lindy Scott from South Africa who won the Shining Star Award; Folake Soetan, CEO of Ikeja Electric from Nigeria, who won the AfriSAFE CEO of the Year Award; Muhindo Franklin from Uganda took home the Young Innovators Award.

Others are: Samson Henshaw Onyeabor (Nigeria), winner of the Professional of the year Award; Dr. Taiwo Afolabi (Nigeria), AfriSAFE Legend Award recipient; Helen Mithole-Cliff (Zambia), Busola Alofe, CEO CIPM (Nigeria) and Dr. Ahmed Ramadan (Egypt) won the Special Commendation Award.

AfriSAFE 2021: MTC Partner HSENations to Hold HSE Career Conference

SafetyCloud was a recipient of the AfriSAFE Training Provider of the Year; AfriSAFE Mining Company of the Year was clinched by Impala Rustenburg; and Nigeria LNG won the AfriSAFE CSR of Year.

Edward Debra from Ghana and Kaileys Consortium took home the AfriSAFE Popular Choice Award, individual and organization respectively.

Furthermore, Mondelez Cadbury International won the Best Health and Safety in Manufacturing of the Year award while Seplat Energy were the overall Winner of AfriSAFE Merit Award; First Bank, United Bank for Africa, Stanbic IBTC among others were recipients in different other categories.

The award went beyond the honoring of safety work but was also decked with exhibition, dances portraying safety consciousness in Africa, and hilarious moments from MC Seyi Law.

Among dignitaries present at the occasion include Dr. Tee Mac Omatshola Iseli, Chairman Board of Tee Mac-HEMLA Foundation; Akeem Ogunniran, Chairman, Lagos State Building Investment Board; Kehinde Bamigbetan, Former Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Lagos State Government and Machelle Aiyegbusi, MD, SLC Resources.

Odebunmi Dominga, Pioneer Director General of Lagos State Safety Commission; Nofisat Arogundade, Former Director Occupational Safety and Health from the Federal Ministry of Labour & Employment; Afolabi Davidson, Director, Energy Training Centre; Kaizer Ebi, President Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria and Kamar Olatunji, MD, Bholar Integrated Service, were also among dignitaries that graced the occasion.

Other important guests at the occasion includes James Adenuga, Group Lead, Occupational Safety and Health at Dangote Group; Felix Nakpodia, Founder, American Society of Safety Professionals Nigeria Chapter (ASSP-NC); Don Okhuofo, Director, Pneuma Capital Limited and
Biodun Adefila, COO, SO&U Ltd. among others.A
