Stephen Udezi - HSENations - building collapse

Delta building collapse: Probe panel a good move but… – ISPON

The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) has lauded the Delta State Government for setting up a probe panel to determine the immediate and remote causes of the Salvation Ministry Church building collapse at Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that the Deputy Governor of the state, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, who announced the setting up of the panel on Wednesday, also assured that its report would be made public.

Reacting, Deputy President of the institute, Chief Udezi Stephen L.A., who spoke exclusively with HSENations, described the state government’s action as a “good move”.

However, the former President of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), Nigeria chapter, urged the state government to include safety professionals on the panel and other accident investigation panels in the state.

This, he explained, would enable the safety angles of accidents to be properly scrutinised in order to set up control measures that would help prevent recurrences.

Chief Udezi also assured HSENations that the institute would soon release a statement on the incident.
