Judges for Africa Safety Awards 2021

The Africa Safety Awards for Excellence (AfriSAFE) has announced the panel of judges for its 2021 edition who will assess entries for the 19 award categories from 4 African regions.

The awards, which is scheduled to hold by November 12, 2021, is aimed at recognizing and celebrating the excellence of individuals and organizations in Health, Safety and Wellbeing on the continent of Africa.

The Chairman, AfriSAFE Board of Governors, Rear Admiral Sunday Abiodun Olukoya, said nominations for the 2021 edition of AfriSAFE rounded up on July 4 with over 1200 nominations across the four African regions.

According to him, this year’s edition would feature a lot of unique activities some of which include an Exhibition, where unique safety product would be showcased, among others.

The appointed judges who are professionals across various filed of health and safety with years of quality experience, will preside over the judging criteria to ensure fairness and chose the best AfriSAFE 2021 nominees and winners.

Here’s the full panel of judges for the 2021 AfriSAFE Awards.

Jerry Mutegi (From Kenya) a master’s degree in occupational safety and health Management is currently a Safety Manager at a leading manufacturer company in Eastern Africa. With a safety career spanning almost 2 decades, Jerry has established Safety Management systems in several manufacturing operations across eastern Africa involving glass manufacture, beer and spirits manufacture and malting.

Rosa Carrillo (United State), MSOD is author of an important book for safety leaders, The Relationship Factor in Safety Performance. She is a dedicated champion of promoting safety, wellbeing and inclusion in the workplace. She has helped safety professionals and companies transform their safety performance for over 25 years in oil and gas, pharmaceutical, nuclear, mining, manufacturing and power generation in multiple countries. She is president of Carrillo & Associates, Inc. a provider for employee engagement, leadership development, and coaching services for leaders of companies that want to achieve high performance in EHS while delivering business results.

Mrs Nofisat Abiola Arogundade (From Nigeria) with MBA in Operations Management is a passionate safety professional with almost four decade of experience in safety administration, regulations, enforcement and advocacy. She retired as a Director of Occupational Safety and Health in 2016 from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Nigeria.

Dave Foy (United Kingdom) who has previously participated in the shortlisting and selection panels for several awards in the UK is a Chartered Member of the world’s largest member body for Safety and Health professionals IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health). Dave is currently the Safety, Health & Environmental Coordinator for the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). He has over 20 years’ experience in Health & Safety and has functioned as an Health & Safety Advisor for a roofing and scaffolding contractor in the UK. He is an awards ambassador for RoSPA and a listed IOSH mentor.

Salif Sidibe (From Senegal) is a Senegalese with solid experience in QHSSE management in the following sectors: Telecoms Industries, Construction, Energy and Port activities. He currently works as HSSE and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager in a Transport & Logistics which has international operation across 109 countries on 5 continents with 35,000 employees. Sallif is also involved activities in the areas of QHSSE & SPS & Risk Management & PCA & SSI.

Gareth Calvin Nortjé (South Africa) is representing South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (SAIOSH) on the AfriSAFE panel ofudges. He has worked across most parts of South Africa for multiple leading South African construction companies and OHS consulting firms implementing and maintaining OHS Systems, rigorous auditing, meticulous risk analysis and guiding large corporations and construction companies to successful and words class OHS Management Systems. He is currently serving the South African OHS Professional Industry as the Membership and Communications Manager for SAIOSH.
