Ways to minimize electrical safety related issues in workplace

There are several ways  to minimize electrical safety related issues in workplace. While Industries maybe faced with various safety issues and how to solve them, one of the most important is electrical safety issues as they are very destructive and could be even deadlier than others. A little spark could set the whole organization ablaze, a little shock could end the lives of thousand of workers. Because of how sensitive electrical safety is, it is therefore imperative of the company to intimate employees on ways to minimize issues that can affect or alter the electrical safety of the organization and their workers.

Today we will be discussing ways to minimize electrical hazard in our workplaces.

1. Inspection of Electrical works and wiring

The usage of damaged wire or using less standard wiring for equipment will only bring more safety concern against the organization. Organization and Professional in charge should ensure they use standard and required wiring material at all time .

2. Know the direction to switch off breaker panels.

4. Master the act of not using both hands

If it is safe to work with only one hand, keep the other hand away from all conductive material. This step reduces accidents that result in current passing through the chest cavity. Since the chest cavity act as more receptor of flowing current thereby enabling shock, it is advisable workers are trained on how they can use one hand when performing electrical work to avoid any form of accident .

5. Be careful when helping a victim of electrical safety issue

If an individual comes in contact with a live electrical wire or anything of such, do not touch the equipment, source, cord or individual. Disconnect the power source from the circuit breaker or pull out the plug using a leather belt. Situation like this is one of the reasons employees should be aware of the switch to immediately switch off and help the employee who is in danger.

Electric shock is an hazard which is common to many pieces of laboratory equipment. Any electrical powered item of laboratory equipment which is subject to spillage of chemicals or water, or exhibit signs of excessive wear should be used carefully.
