What to do when health and safety is being compromised? Of course there are are measure to use once safety is being compromised.
A lot of time, activities may cause direct or indirect compromise in organizations. Other times it may be as a result of deliberate effort in order to achieve some result in a different way. But whatever may be the reason for compromise of health and safety, there is always a way out.
In our previous article, we discussed Reasons you should never compromise on health and safety , safety personnel should avoid every situation that may lead to compromising health and safety, but if the health and safety of the organization are already compromised, there are solutions to fixing it back and getting it right.
Below are what can be done once a compromise in the health and safety of the organization is compromised.
1. Investigate what led to compromising.
In every safety issue, the first thing every Professional need to know is what led to the issue, likewise when safety is being compromised. A safety Professional need to be intimated with what led to the compromise, why it was done, what was the expected result and of course the magnitude of the effect. All this stated punch line are what will be explained to employees so as to perfect their understanding on why it is dangerous to compromise on health and safety of the company.
2. Talk to supervisor and health and safety personnel about the problem.
After gathering information on what led to the issue of compromising, the next step the employees needs to do is discuss with either manager, supervisor, etc. The people in better position will have an idea of how and what other method can be used to solve that particular problem without having to compromise the safety of the organization.

If the issue cannot be resolved, then both manager and supervisor may need to meet the employers, who might need the service of a safety Professional in such area.
3. Agree on ways to fix the problem.
If you are in danger, you may be given different work to do until the risk has been dealt with.
If you cannot agree upon a safe course of action, your employer or health and safety representative may ask a consultant to visit.
Consultant takes whatever action they consider appropriate. The ability of every member of the organization being able to agree on fixing a particular problem makes it easier to forgo the issues of compromising. Every member of the company should have their hands on desk on how to find a perfect solution and of course they should agree on the solution provided once it is gotten.
4. Improvement and prohibition notices may be issued.
Appropriate action to improve at all time must be put into consideration. Also, prohibition notice should be served to avoid the mistake of employees not knowing what to do or what not to do. With prohibition notice, every employee is aware that appropriate action will be taken for or against any act of compromising.
5. Set and maintain a standard.
Every organization must learn to set and maintain a standard. As a standard safety organization, it is easier to find out when health and safety is being compromised once there is a standard which is set up for employees to follow and work through.
At every point in health and safety industries, a little shift in what is right can cause great and immediate havoc on both lives and properties but the ability of the company to have a set down guidelines on how to avert destruction is very essential.
