Woman Dies, Two Saved as Ibadan Records Two Fire Incidents in 24 Hours

A woman lost her life while two men were rescued after a night fire swept through a residential building at Agbaakin Street, Iwo Road, Ibadan, on Dec 8.

Oyo State Fire Service Chairman, Maroof Akinwande, said the blaze began after a charcoal cooking pot was left burning unattended, igniting nearby materials.

Firefighters arrived at 8:18 p.m., contained the fire to two rooms, rescued two occupants, and recovered one deceased victim.

In a separate incident on Dec 9 Tuesday morning, a fire broke out at the Agric Business Development Agency at Total Garden.

The Service said the fire was triggered by electrical sparks from a solar inverter control board.

Swift intervention by officers, led by ACFS Oyeniyi Taofeek, prevented major damage. No casualties were recorded.

Akinwande advised residents to adopt safer electrical practices and avoid leaving heat sources unattended.
