…Partners WSO Nigeria to Combat Road Accidents…
The Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Olusegun Ogungbemide, has cautioned vehicle drivers in the country to maintain a 30km per hour speed limit while plying the roads as the Yuletide season approaches.
He said this during a Courtesy/Partnership Meeting Session with Safety and Emergency Response Ready Ambassador (SafERR) delegates of the World Safety Organization (WSO), Nigeria, witnessed by HSENations at the FRSC Lagos Command Office on September 14.
According to the Commander, the Corps was working assiduously to eliminate the number of fatalities during road crashes in line with the United Nations Decade of Action Policy (UNDAP) 2030 mandate.
“With the world latest idea now that there is nothing we can do- crashes must happen. The target now is to ensure that although there may be a crash, life should not be lost.”
“I get elated when we look at recent report these days whereby three trucks were involved in a crash or a container fell but no life lost. At least we are getting there. We are getting there in line with the world request”.
Ogungbemide called for the cooperation of motorists, the public and first emergency responders, as he stressed the Corps commitment to quicker response to road emergencies.
He equally reached out to safety professionals and bodies to partner in ameliorating road safety challenges through more sensitization and trainings.
The highpoint of the meeting was the conferment of honor on the Ogungbemide, by the World Safety Organization (WSO) with a SafERR ambassadorship medal and Award Certificate.
Presenting the award, the Governor-General of WSO Lagos-Chapter, Wilson Arokpo, lauded the Commander for raising the bar high in the leadership of the Safety Corps in Lagos State.
“There is a need to celebrate this sector and for the amount of work you are doing in the area of safety. We found you worthy, along with members of your team who are working with you to be a safety ambassador,” he said.
Also speaking, the Deputy Governor-General, Monica Nwosu, said that the award would be a strong motivation for the Corps to increase its efforts; as well as collaborate with the WSO team in facilitating safety emergency response in the state.
